Beggars Cant be Choosers...

so this kid just came to my door and he said that he was trying to earn money for scout camp and wanted to mow my lawn for the summer. I told him that I mow my lawn and I enjoy mowing it so I wouldn't want to give that up. Then I asked him if he would want to do some other yard work like pulling weeds and such, and he looked confused. I asked him how much he charges for lawn mowing and he said $10 which I felt like was a great deal. Then I asked him if he was even interested in pulling weeds and he said no.... Then I said, well I guess we don't need your service then, thanks anyway.

I would have loved to help him go to scout camp.

I guess I am confused on why this kid wasn't interested in pulling weeds. My first thought was "kids these days don't know how to work hard for their money" but I don't know, what do you all think?

Was he not wanting to work hard?
Was I asking too much from a kid?
Or am I just over reacting?

What do you think?

Like, Who Does That?

*** Warning: this post may contain spoilers for the movie 'Unknown'. If you haven't seen it yet and want to, read at your own risk.

Heber and I went on a date night last Saturday. We went to Red Robin, which have the best burgers ever, and to the movie Unknown.

Unknown was ok for me. Heber really liked it but we both agreed that it was a one time movie, not one that is good to watch again. We have different styles of movies. I like love stories that actually have endings. He likes action stuff and he really doesn't care if the movie has an actual ending or not. What I mean is, There are some movies out there that make you think. They make you decide if the 2 people end up dating, or get married or whatever. Its up to you to decide. I hate that. I don't want to guess, I want to know and see what happens in the end. And to be honest, with unknown I was more interested in the last 5 minutes of the show then I was the whole rest of the show and was so disappointed because it didn't have a real ending. Do they get together? I don't know, where do they go? I don't know. What happens next, I have no clue!!! I want to know these things!!!

Now, onto the title of my blog, Like, who does that? Thats my line that I say when I am relating a story about someone who I cant believe how they acted, or what they did, Ya know, Like who does that?

So I am sitting watching the movie and when I watch these style of movies, the fast going action, its hard for me to follow so I am really concentrating trying to get every piece of the puzzle adding up all the pieces. There were a lot of death scenes where some were pretty graphic, and a few sex scenes, which you didn't see anything, but they wanted you to hear it, if you know what I mean. Heber leans over to me and says "I cant believe how many kids are in this theater" I look around and see about 10, maybe more, children around age 5 or so. Really? Its a PG-13 movie in 2011. LIKE WHO DOES THAT? So then I try to go back to watching the movie but every time there is a sex scene or a death or a swear word, whatever, all I can think about are these poor children being dragged to this movie with sex and violence. So I tell Heber that he ruined the movie for me because I was so worried about these kids.

Seriously, Like, Who does that?

The Toilets Clogged!

I walked into the bathroom and immediately saw that the toilet paper was gone. I said to myself, "thats funny, we just replaced that roll a few days ago." and I looked closer and saw the whole roll unraveled in the toilet.

I called for Heber to come look and I flushed and it starts to come up! "Oh my gosh its clogged! its coming up!" I was shouting. "Go get the plunger or its going to overflow!" Heber said to me, "its not coming up", so we had a small argument weather or not the water was coming up.

For some reason he went and got the plunger anyway. I don't know why he would go get it if he didn't think the water was coming up. So he puts the plunger in it and starts plunging away. then he flushes and the water really starts coming up, its nearing the brim. "AHH its going to overflow!! Keep plunging! What do we do!!" Heber tell me, "be quiet, your going to wake up the kids!" I am sitting there laughing/ screaming because its really quite comical. I have never seen anything like that before, but at the same time I was worried because I would have to clean up any mess it made.

Luckily Heber was able to get it to go down before it overflowed. It was more funny then anything, Heber and I got a good laugh about it.

Milagros Review

Here is the website to Milagros: http://www.milagrosut.com/

Short version: horrible, we wont go back there again. Bad service and bad food, not a good combination.

Long version:

We tried Milagros last weekend. Very, very disappointing. We went in, got seated right away and the waitress came to take our order right away. I told her I would need a minute. I looked over the menu and decided on the soup and salad combo for 9 dollars. The soup was chicken tortilla which is one of my favorites.

The waitress came back and I told her I wanted the soup and salad. She was like, "oh... well, we are out of the chicken tortilla soup, and we aren't offering the soup and salad combo anymore. Sorry, I should have told you that." um, ok well I think I am going to need another minute.

They haven't even been opened that long, maybe 2 months and they have already taken things off their menu and haven't changed it on the actual menu....

So I was going to order something else. It didn't help that their menu was small and limited of choices.

Heber told me to get the enchiladas and he would get the tacos and we could split them. I figured that was fine since I didn't know what I was going to get anyway. I decided to get the chicken enchiladas with flour tortillas because I don't like corn tortillas. It turns out that you can't get flour tortillas. surprise surprise..

So Iget the chicken enchiladas with corn tortillas, sweet rice and back beans and Heber got the pork tacos with spicy rice with steamed veggies.

His food comes out and he starts eating. My food hasn't come out yet. It was a little weird and I was glad they gave us the chips and salsa so I could munch on them while I was waiting for my food.

Later I learned that thats how they do things at Milagros, they bring the food out whenever its ready, I just wish the waitress would have told us...

So my food finally comes out by this time Heber is so disgusted with his pork tacos. I try my enchiladas they were ok. He says he wants them. I try his pork tacos. Since I didn't get what I wanted anyway, I told him I would switch him. So instead of sharing our tacos and enchiladas, ate my enchiladas and I choked down his tacos. Aren't I so nice?

The tacos were so dry. They were stuffed full of pork that was as dry as wood. They didn't even have cheese on them. They were horrible. I asked Heber how the enchiladas were doing, he said they were better then the tacos, but the chicken was still dry.

Their kitchen area is out in the open where the customers can see all of the waiters standing around laughing and talking. It was frustrating because Heber was out of water. He was getting so mad. I think it took her 15 minutes or longer to bring him more water.

His grilled veggies were weird. It wasn't the typical steamed veggies you would be expecting. it was sliced carrots, corn, asparagus, sliced zucchini, whatever else. and his spicy rice was ok. He said to me when he saw the steamed veggies, "all I wanted was rice and refried beans" but of course they don't offer normal refried beans...

My sweet rice and black beans were good, the black beans came out of a can, nothing special to them. I could make those at home.

I just don't understand how it was 10 dollars for each plate...

Well we wont be going back there again.

Are You a 5 or a 7?

This is something I learned in my institute class that I wanted to share.

1 Nephi 3: verses 5,7 reads:

5: And now, behold thy brothers murmur, saying it is a hard thing which I have required of them; but behold I have not required it of them, but it is a commandment of the Lord.

7: And it came to pass that I, Nephi said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.

Do you murmur and complain about the things you are required to do like Laman and Lemuel, (vs 5) or do you say I will go and do the things the Lord commands I know he will make a way for me to succeed, because he commanded me to do this (vs 7)

Are you a 5 or a 7?

Carrot Cake

The other day I made a carrot cake. It wasn't anything special, it was from a box, with store bought frosting.

Heber was a bit disappointed because he heard me say cake and thought it would be a chocolate cake, it wasn't. It was a carrot cake.

Usually when I make a cake a few pieces get eaten, but then I throw most of it away after it sits for a week. This cake was different. I made it Sunday and on Monday night it was completely gone. It was a cake that everyone in the family loved.

Q never once said he didn't like it. Meg was asking for it at all time during the day, and kept saying the piece wasn't big enough, the piece was never big enough for her. Heber kept commenting on how he just loved it. I was surprised because I didn't think he liked carrot cake, but apparently he likes this brand. I was eating it for breakfast. after all, it did have carrots and raisins in it.

anyway, I don't know how this blog post got to be this long, but it was seriously good cake!

Birds Nest

Meg and I went exploring in our yard and found this birds nest on the ground with this egg in it. The egg was broken and empty but we still thought it was fun.

2 Sad Things...

This week we have had 2 sad things happen that I am still trying to wrap my mind around. Both were so unexpected and just broke my heart.

The first thing~ My hard drive died. So far, I have lost everything, my documents, my recipe book I have been making, my journal, my desktop icons, but most importantly my photos. I am just heart broken about these photos. Everything is gone, from birth to now, our life history is just gone. Heber is trying everything to get them copied over but so far has had no luck. It doesn't look hopeful.

The second thing~ Meg cut her hair. She was supposed to be in bed but obviously wasn't and chopped off her pony tail. its really short and right on top of her head. Any hair style that I do will not hide this. Right now I am debating on taking her to get it professionally cut to help blend it. But Meg LOVES her long hair, and so do I so I just don't know if I can do it.

So today I am just feeling down.

Bad Luck Fortune Cookie

Is it bad luck if your fortune cookie is broken before you open it? My fortune was cursed, I know it!

"A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist."

How could you say that to me?

(oh and how is that a fortune anyways?)

Its Done! ~ Before and After Shots

Heber's Brother Joe transformed our yard into something AMAZING! We are forever indebted to Joe (and Raylene) for this! Thank you!

Ok so its not completely done, but Joe's part is done and now I am just waiting for fall so I can plant some things and then next spring I will do the flowers and stuff to decorate it.

I tried to match up the views of before and after, but some pictures didnt match up exactly. Some I didnt get a before, and havent taken an after but I think you will get the idea. Joe also took these pictures, Thanks a bunch!

To see the real thing, I guess you will just have to come over and have a BBQ. We are going to be living out here this summer.

I am really sad that I dont have a before picture of this because joe pulled the fence foward and redid the whole thing.

Backyard:

This is behind where the fence was pulled forward making more room for gardens in the back. I will plant raspberries, strawberries and snow peas all in this curve on the side of the house.

Before:

After:

Our back yard had a hill all the way across the whole thing, the bottom of the hill was not really usable. and this slab of cement Joe made into a fire pit area and my garden is on the side, more pictures of that below.

After:

Fire pit and garden area: This before picture was actually in progress. Joe built the rock walls and everything. We had to keep a slight hill because the fire pit has a city box or something that couldn't be buried. so we have a slight hill to the sitting area. in these beds I am going to do fruit trees.

Below is a better before picture of the one above. This is where the fire pit is before the wall were put up.

After:

Here is a before and after of the fence/gate. Joe took down the fence and put in a gate. he also added this tree and some other bushes, it really looks sooooooo good! Oh, and these are the front yard.

Back yard in progress. Joe added the retaining wall. I am planning on doing window boxes with annuals all along it.

Inside look of the patio and gate Joe built.
